Located about 20 minutes from Santa Cruz, Big Basin Redwoods State Park is one of the Northern Coasts most beautiful getaways. Established in 1902, it’s California’s oldest state park — home to towering redwoods, 80 miles of trails, and several beautiful waterfalls.

Here you can take your pick of tent cabins or campsites along Blooms Creek, Sempervirens, Huckleberry and Wastahi campgrounds. There are more than 146 campsites to choose from, with picnic tables, fire rings, drinking water, restrooms, showers and some dump stations.

The Big Basin Redwoods Store sells camping supplies and package. While you’re here, don’t miss a visit to the Nature Museum at park headquarters, or the Rancho Del Oso Nature and History Center (831-427-2288) on Highway 1.

Guided programs are offered throughout the year, from hikes to Mt. McAbee to campfire & s’mores programs and excursions to Sempervirens Falls
